Letter from the Co-founder

Hi Everyone!

I hope you are enjoying the last threads of summer in your part of the world. I’ve just arrived back in California after a massive road trip driving all over North America and having brilliant conversations with local CTI communities about the evolution of leadership in our world.

I’ve had the chance to be with all kinds of different people and to have great conversations about CTI’s way of looking at leadership. For us at CTI, leadership is not a function of position or title. We believe that a leader is someone who is able to take responsibility for his or her world. In this way, really EVERYONE is a leader because everyone has within them this capacity to step forward, engage with and be fully responsible for the world within and around them. This is the foundation of CTI’s amazing leadership program and the foundation for a new book that I have co-authored with David Skibbins titled “The Stake: The Making of Leaders.”

Autumn 2013

“The Stake” is a very cool blend of fiction and non-fiction. In the book you get to journey through the CTI leadership program with a group of fictitious characters from a wide range of backgrounds. As the reader, you will be following right along with these characters, learning as they learn about their leadership and the issues that they’re facing in their personal and professional lives.

The book unfolds in a beautiful story that I think you’ll enjoy very much and we’ve mingled in some non-fiction as well, including information about the Co-Active Leadership philosophy and featuring leadership quests—or projects—that come from actual participants from the Co-Active Leadership Program.

The book is a great read for everyone because as I said earlier, everyone is a leader. Graduates of the Co-Active Leadership Program will have a blast revisiting their experience and re-connecting with the transformative journey. People who have thought about doing the program and have never been able to get enough information from their secretive friends who keep saying “Trust me just do it,” will finally get some answers. And the book will appeal to people from all walks and fields of life, in business, in communities in non-profits and in families who have never heard about the program and perhaps never thought of themselves as leaders and yet always felt that fire in their belly for making a difference.

You can order “The Stake: The Making of Leaders” on website or on Amazon in both paperback and Kindle versions. Get a couple of copies so you can give some away to people in your world who you thought the Leadership Program would be perfect for.

David and I have a deep, deep desire that we believe we share with all of you, and that is that we humans wake up and discover that we are indeed responsible for our worlds and our world. We think that this book and this program are excellent ways to both step into that responsibility and to expand the world that we are responsible for. We also feel that people should be able to take that journey in a fun and creative way. We hope you enjoy every moment of your journey and every moment you spend reading our book.

New Co-Active Leadership Alumni Support Group Listing

Building on the launch of our Leaders Connect initiative in April, we have created a niche on the Co-Active Network called “Co-Active Leaders Connect Local Groups“, to host a global listing of alumni who have stepped up in their local area to host and organise in person support groups for anyone who has completed R4 of CTI’s Co-Active Leadership Program.

If you have completed the program, and want to connect with other alumni in your local area, then please visit the Leaders Connect listing page.

If you can’t find a city listing near to you and want to step up to run a group in your area, then get in touch with CTI Community Director, Nick Kettles,, to discuss what’s possible.

Co-Active Summit Keynote Speaker Announced

At the 2014 Global Co-Active Summit we will explore how we bring all of our leadership and coaching skills together to create a better world for everyone, every day. Collectively, we will take the thinking of Co-Active in the world to the next place, moving from Me to We. Our keynote speakers will play a big role in this transformational process.

Keynote Topic: The Cosmic “WE”

Brian Swimme, PhD, is Professor of Philosophy, Cosmology and Consciousness at the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco. Faculty Spotlight: Rick Tamlyn

A popular and charismatic CTI faculty member, you’ll find Rick Tamlyn at the front of the room in Co-Active coach training courses, Leadership Programs and organizational trainings. From October 20 to 25, 2013 Rick will be leading CTI’s ‘Leader from Within’ retreat in Sonoma County, CA with Pat Carrington-House. And next March Rick will act as emcee at the 2014 Co-Active Global Summit.

Rick Tamlyn is a “Game Changer.” He co-created The Bigger Game in 2001 as a way to inspire executives, leaders, and individuals to get out of their comfort zones and invent the life they want.

The Bigger Game is a concept that will take you only nine minutes to understand, and a lifetime to play. It looks like a simple tic-tac-toe board, with descriptors such as “Allies,” “Gulp,” and “Assess” attached to each square.

The Bigger Game was designed from the premise that life itself is one big game. And if life is a game, then why not play one that excites, fulfills and challenges you?

Rick has been playing a “Bigger Game” since he was a child. His unique ability to see beyond “status quo” or “acceptable limits” has led to a lifetime of helping others do the same. His first speaking engagements were in church as a kid, then as an actor on stage, before jumping to audiences of thousands.

His two million plus frequent flier miles tell the story of each person he has been in contact with. Participants leave feeling enthusiastic, confident and focused... and ready to create a bigger and brighter future. Watch for email from CTI about Rick and the Bigger Game workshop coming to a city near you.

In recognition of Rick’s growing public impact, Hay House—one of the fastest-growing self-help and transformational publishers in the world—is adding Rick Tamlyn to their stable of authors. There, Rick will join best-selling authors Dr. Wayne Dyer, Cheryl Richardson, and Carolyn Myss. Rick’s book Play Your Bigger Game: 9 Minutes to Learn, A Lifetime to Live will be released in October 2013.

CTI Announces Co-Active Leadership Alumni Local Support Initiative

Building on the success of the wide network of local coaching alumni in-person support groups it has initiated and supported over the years, CTI realized it was time to do the same for alumni of CTI’s Co-Active Leadership Program. In April leadership alumni got together in London UK, Calgary, Toronto and Vancouver in Canada, and in Boston, US, to run a series of pilot groups.

As few as 5 and as many as 15 alumni from all tribes all years, came together and re-discovered their hunger to deepen their learning about the L4 Leadership model, and support each other in growing, starting or restarting their leadership projects or Quests. Without any prompting all of these groups immediately booked the next meeting! A clear yes from the Level 3 for more! We have recruited other local organizers and created a listing on the Co-Active Network, so you can access a group near to you, or indeed in a town you are visiting.

If you can’t find a city listing near to you and want to step up to run a group in your area, then get in touch with CTI Community Director, Nick Kettles,, to discuss what’s possible.

CTI Expanding on the Pacific Rim

The Pacific Rim includes countries bordering the Pacific Ocean from North and South America to Asia to Oceania. Most of these countries have experienced major economic change and growth to become components of an economically integrated trade region. Singapore is one of four Pacific Rim territories called “Economic Tigers” due to their aggressive economies.

We’ve run one training series in Singapore. A second is scheduled to start January 2014. If you or anyone you know is interested in training at this location, please schedule a phone appointment with a program advisor at or +44 845 299 8199.

Fundamentals: January 17-19, 2014
Fulfillment: February 14-16, 2014
Balance: March 7-9, 2014
Process: April 25-25, 2014
Synergy: May 16-18, 2014

Malaysia is a bustling melting-pot of races and religions where Malays, Indians, Chinese and many other ethnic groups live together. Multiculturalism has made Malaysia a gastronomical paradise where you will find towering skyscrapers looking down upon wooden houses built on stilts while five-star hotels sit just meters away from ancient reefs. Malaysia has one of the best economic records in Asia, with GDP growing an average 6.5 per cent annually from 1957 to 2005.

Next month, in October 2013, CTI will be testing a fundamentals course in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Please contact V.S. Pandian for dates, location and registration information.

Please forward this information to anyone you know in the region.
