John is an accomplished and highly qualified coach and trainer with a diverse range of expertise and experiences. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce from the University of Queensland, Australia, which he completed under a scholarship from the Government of Brunei Darussalam. Additionally, he is a Professional Certified Coach (PCC) at the International Coach Federation (ICF) and a Certified Professional Co- Active Coach (CPCC) at CTI – Co-Active Training Institute.
As a faculty member of CTI and The Leadership Circle, John plays a crucial role in training and mentoring new coaches. He embraces a leadership style that focuses on leading from the front and behind, acting as a servant leader to facilitate transformation. He is also certified in Organizations, Systems, and Relationships Coaching (ORSCC), which enables him to challenge teams to explore their intelligence and creativity and emerge stronger amidst ambiguity and volatility.
John’s extensive corporate background spans approximately 20 years, during which he worked in global financial institutions and provided consulting services to various industries, including pharmaceuticals, luxury retail, automotive, and manufacturing. This diverse experience has equipped him with a deep understanding of organizational dynamics and the challenges faced by different sectors.
Born in Brunei and having lived in Brisbane, Shanghai, and Hong Kong, John’s multicultural upbringing and exposure have allowed him to deliver courses and coach individuals in numerous countries and territories, including Brunei, Mainland China, Hong Kong China, Taiwan China, S. Korea, Japan, Spain, UK, Australia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand amongst others. He is fluent in English, Mandarin, Cantonese, and Malay, enabling him to connect with clients from diverse linguistic backgrounds.
One of John’s notable achievements was leading a leadership culture transformation program for a multinational European pharmaceutical company in Shanghai. In this role, he collaborated with senior leaders to enhance their teams’ understanding of leadership culture and foster agility in cross-functional collaboration.
Currently, John focuses on working with leadership teams and team leaders across various industries. With over 20 years of experience in learning and development, he has successfully facilitated and coached more than 200 leadership teams, supporting them in navigating the volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous (VUCA) world. His mission is to elevate leaders’ consciousness by helping them connect with their values and purpose, believing that when leaders are aligned with their true selves, their creative leadership abilities shine.
John firmly believes that every individual is creative and whole, and coaching serves as a catalyst to unlock the inherent creativity and resources within. He emphasizes the importance of self-awareness in leadership, both at an individual and team level. By revealing the system to itself and holding leaders as naturally creative and resourceful, John facilitates transformative leadership.
Furthermore, John’s expertise lies in the field of corporate culture leadership programs. He has designed and delivered successful programs for clients in the banking, automotive, and pharmaceutical industries. His exceptional work in this area was recognized when he received the Best Training Program Award Bronze from HSBC Asia Pacific for his design and delivery of a corporate culture program.
