Build the Leadership Capacities That Matter Most

Presence, discernment, and relational intelligence developed through real practice

Leadership does not require a title. It shows up in how people listen, how they respond under pressure, and how they bring others along. Co-Active Leadership: Distributed Leadership develops the awareness and skill to act on that capacity in the moments that matter, at every level of an organization.

"I entered the course feeling skeptical of how much could change in 3-5 days, and I'm leaving with a vision and accompanying actions of how I'm going to show up differently in my life and work. The most valuable part was not only the experiences, but also getting live coaching and feedback from the leaders and other participants."

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Co-Active Leadership: Distributed Leadership?
Co-Active Leadership: Distributed Leadership is a leadership development course from Co-Active Training Institute. It develops presence, relational intelligence, and discernment through live, experiential learning. The course is built on the premise that leadership capacity exists in every person, regardless of title or role, and teaches participants how to act on that capacity and activate it in the people around them.
How is the course structured?
The course is delivered online in two parts. Part One is a three-day live session. That is followed by a two-to-four-week application period where participants bring what they learned into their actual work and life. Part Two is a two-day live session focused on deepening and integrating what participants discovered during the application period.
How much does Co-Active Leadership: Distributed Leadership cost?
The course investment is $3,490. If you have not yet completed the prerequisite (Co-Active Foundations or Fundamentals), you can register for Foundations at the same time and Foundations is included at no additional cost.
Is there a prerequisite?
Yes. Co-Active Foundations or Co-Active Fundamentals is required before enrolling in Distributed Leadership. If you haven’t completed either, you can register for Foundations alongside Distributed Leadership and Foundations will be included at no additional cost.
Who is this course for?
The course is designed for managers, team leads, individual contributors, and professionals who want to develop their leadership capacity from wherever they are in an organization. It is also a strong fit for organizations building more distributed, adaptive leadership cultures. This course is focused on leadership development and is separate from CTI’s coach training pathway.
Is this course the same as Co-Active coach training?
No. Co-Active Leadership: Distributed Leadership is a standalone leadership development course. It is separate from CTI’s coach training and certification pathway. You do not need to be pursuing a coaching credential to take this course.
What does "distributed leadership" mean?
Distributed leadership is the idea that leadership capacity is present in every person across an organization, not concentrated in a few people at the top. This course develops participants’ ability to lead from where they are and to recognize and activate the leadership already present in the people around them.
Is the course online or in person?
The course is delivered entirely online. Every session is live and facilitated in real time by two experienced Co-Active faculty members.
Why is the course co-led by two faculty members?
The co-leadership format is central to the course design. Two faculty members share responsibility for leading each session, bringing different perspectives and modeling distributed leadership in practice. Participants experience shared leadership directly, rather than hearing about it in a lecture.
What do participants walk away with?
Participants leave with a clearer sense of what they stand for, where they want to have influence, and specific commitments for how they will apply what they learned. They return to their teams with more capacity to respond in complex situations and more confidence in their own leadership.
How is this different from other leadership development programs?
Co-Active Leadership: Distributed Leadership is experiential. Participants practice in real time, receive live coaching and feedback, and apply what they learn in their actual work during the application period between sessions. The learning happens through direct experience, not through lectures or slide decks.
Can my organization enroll a team?

Yes. The course is designed for both individuals and teams. Organizations building more distributed leadership cultures can enroll multiple participants. For group or organizational inquiries, you can talk to an advisor.
